Went to Hawn state park October 14, 2023. Had a great time hiking the pickle creek trail, the trail was well marked. I got to see cool rock formations, giant boulders and small waterfalls and cascades. I see why a lot of people like this park. I’ll have to come back here to do the whispering pine trail. Highly recommend visiting!
Hawn is always a delightful place to be. The trails are majestic, and the views are unbeatable! All of the trails here are gorgeous and very well marked & maintained. You're not likely to get lost here :)
So , the place is well kept, and has plenty of spots to camp, and a playground for kids, it has trails, and signs posted properly, however I came to see the outlook, which was not posted properly here, stopped and asked an park ranger for directions, went there just to see no outlook no nothing just overgrown trees, the park ranger didn't mention any of this ! To hike the trails is a little crowded due to all the people who was camping here at the time, so my experience here could of been better, I will say it's upkeep was very well, and it does have the features of what beginner hikers with little kids would be looking for.
Another wonderful Missouri state park. The campsites here are gorgeous, plenty of room, level, concrete pads with firing and picnic table. Table. The shower house is very clean, four individual showers, separate restrooms and laundry. There is one washer and one dryer, they each cost $1. There is firewood and ice for sale at the campground. The park itself also has some beautiful hiking trails, unfortunately, none that are rated easy. Other people have said there is no cell phone service here, but that's not quite true. We did have enough AT&T service that we could stream the news on our phone, and sporadic Verizon service. There is no over the air TV. All the sites are electric only, or primitive, but there is a dump station. There is a children's playground at the campground and another one at the trailhead. There's also a beautiful picnic area near the trailhead.
One of the best parks in the state for hiking. My favorite trail is Whispering Pines, north loop. It isn't easy but well worth the 6 mile hike! Bring water...and a walking stick. Watch for snakes...they are abundant in the spring.
It was lovely to find a crystal clear creek with beautiful rocks and sandy patches. Not deep enoughnough for real swimming but along the pickle creek trail there are numerous spots for wading and cooling off. Great for kids.
This is a must see park. The campground has everything you could need, the trails are great and have awesome views although I haven't managed to do the complete south and north loops yet but I know include backpack in camp sites. Park staff were great and made sure everything was running smoothly. Also very pet friendly. It is somewhat rugged with bluffs and boulders along pickle creek but only add to the beauty. Anyone can enjoy this place.
Very pretty stream. Quiet trails, but can get dense at times. You can take a few different trails in the park, and each trail is marked on the trees or signs along the way. I gave it 4 stars because the trails aren't wide and you have to walk through overgrown weeds and bush. If you don't mind that, then this will be super enjoyable for you. I love how quiet it is when you're on the trail. I've been here twice and both times it felt like we were the only ones on the trail.
